Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Gules, three arming buckles one and two fesswise Or, upon a chief Buff between two pikes of the second a pale paly of six Gold and Sable charged with a bend counterchanged. Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed "SUPPORT THE SOLDIER" in Black letters.

Symbolism
Buff and scarlet are the colors used for Support. Arming buckles, used during the Middle Ages to secure arms and equipment to the combatant, and the pikes express the overall mission and capabilities of the unit. The pikes and pale are used to allude to Pikesville, Maryland, the home Armory and allotted state of the organization.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 24 October 1979.
